September 18, 2014, was either an orchestrated swindle to divide the people of Scotland into two lots – the pro Westminster Queen throng and the screw the Empire system social media hipsters, or maybe it was the final sighs of humanity’s sense of body politic going goofy?
Today, the day after the #Yes Scotland and the Better Together war, my heart is bogged down with incredulity and torment. There was a primal shot for Scotland to become an independent nation with a collective identity of self-esteem and greenie vision. Could there just be too much whiskey and pints and not enough AA meetings? Is the social psychology review so simplistic – the country needs to sober up?
Scotland has produced, or to put it bluntly, use to produce by the bushel, excellent innovators, engineers, artists, musicians, thinkers, and insightful poets. What was witnessed with this vote, from afar, since I am merely of the Scottish gene pool not a slave to the Brit Empire, was the reigning reflex of the provincial status quo against contemporary futurists of the Arts and Crafts urban-scape.
The lies told were thick and crusty. The swarm of the silent majority bit their brogue tongues waiting to check their paper ballots Nope. It becomes the cranky view from a Shetland pony’s rump why paper ballots in 2014? How easy is it to askew the vote?
If I had been in the country working pro-bono for the Yes movement I would have focused impounding every single ballot with two vetted and trusted persons at every polling place. It would be accomplished with legality and fortitude – what I label the Hillary. When the Hill and Bill show decided to run her for US Senator of New York, they played the game by setting up the classical America movie scene. A heritage estate was purchased (OPM’d) inside the boundaries of the empire State of New York although the amount of time actually on the premises as a couple amounted to about five grains of sand dropping from a micro sized hour glass (Bill likes his hip digs in Harlem). On Election Day Hill’s packs of barking legal beagles impounded every NY State voting apparatus used in the election. This put each NY Board of Elections on notice no hanky panky would be allowed with court orders flung about and an army of observers standing by to pick through any election law oddities as nefarious acts or altered machines.
In 2000, when GW Bush beat Al Gore by 537 votes from a Florida ‘recount’ all biped residents on the planet found out about hanging chads. If you keep fumbling with them, the chads fall off? SCOTUS did the constitution in along with Al in their 7-2 ruling. Bush stole the POTUS joystick with merely 537 votes – enough to control the Electoral College (man oh man what an arcane method needing to be pitched in the dumpster). Bush and his deciders went onto to produce war after war. Gore went on to the board of Apple and a page on Facebook. My Jungian take is no man could ever be elected with the name gore, although kerry is a positive, and well, Bush is sexy self-explanatory.
In our debacle of yesterday, the Scots agreed to paper ballots and one wonders why. Some history, as short as it is not, about devolution in Scotland’s history of never becoming independent of the Empire sitting in its glory in Westminster and Her Royal Poopa in Balmoral Castle along with several other castles in Scotland the Royals fancy.
Under the Scotland Act 1999, an ordinary general election to the Scottish Parliament was held on the first Thursday in May four years after the 2007 election because of problems with voter confusion in tandem with a ridiculous number of spoilt ballots in 2007 and because the complexity of holding Scottish parliamentary and local election simultaneously under different voting systems. With this madness the next Scottish local elections were held in 2012 instead of 2011. Are you following this circuitous route? Then the policy decision was contradicted, however, by the staging of the Alternative Vote referendum on 5 May 2011, as well. Labor MP Ian Davidson expressed opposition to the referendum being staged on the same date as other elections. Scottish Secretary Michael Moore stated having the referendum on another date would cost an additional £17 million. The world knows the frugality of the Scots, eh? Thus the paper ballot with one simple question, and you put your x to the aye or the nope.
British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens living in Scotland who were aged 18 or over on election day were entitled to vote. The deadline to register to vote in the 2011 (2012) election was midnight on Friday 15 April 2011, though anyone who qualified as an anonymous elector had until midnight on Tuesday, April, 26, 2011 to register. Are you following?
This vote was held on the same day as elections for Northern Ireland’s 26 local councils, the Northern Irish Assembly and Welsh Assembly elections, a number of local elections in England and the United Kingdom Alternative Vote.
The Scottish Labour Party was committed to home rule for Scotland in the 1920s, but it skid from its slippery fingers or agenda in the following years. The Scottish National Party (SNP) formed in 1934, but did not achieve significant electoral success until the 1960s. A document calling for home rule, the Scottish Covenant, was signed by 2 million people (out of a population of 5 million) in the late 1940s. Home rule, now known as Scottish devolution, did not become a serious proposal until the late 1970s as the Labour government of Jim Callaghan rightly suffered pressure from the SNP.
A proposal for a devolved Scottish Assembly was put to a referendum in 1979. A narrow majority of votes were cast in favor of change, but this had no effect due to a requirement the number voting ‘Yes’ had to exceed 40% of the total electorate.
No further constitutional reform was proposed until Labour returned to power in 1997, when lo and behold a second Scottish devolution referendum was held. Clear majorities expressed support for a devolved Scottish Parliament. This new parliamentary entity would levy the basic rate of income tax. The Scotland Act 1998 established the new Scottish Parliament, first elected on May 6, 1999, to legislate on unreserved matters within Scotland.
With this under our kilt, we see much of the recent history of voting in Scotland is fraught with confusion and distrust as home rulers sought to take the Empire on and the voters of the borders attempted to discern what was all the scuffle about. The paper ballots of the election of yesterday, simple as they were, was a slithering setup. As a long time Board of Elections poll worker, a Democratic Party poll watcher (administrator) and voting myself in America in three different states (not at the same time) in a multitude of election cycles, I confirm how confused and tired poll workers are at the end of the day. The Scottish polls were open from 6 AM until 10 PM, yesterday, to further extend the day’s laborious term along with a record turnout.
Am I saying the vote was tampered with? Yes. The use of paper ballots is about as fourth world as one can get except in foreign country elections where a multitude of NGO observers are in place to hopefully provide an environment of integrity for democracy to unfold. In the last election held in #Egypt none of this happened. It was a horrible turnout two-day election with results fraudulent in favor of the despot El #Sisi. The Sisi is John Kerry’s nightmare, the mouthpiece for the war machine, oil depot desert princes, and a wanker of a certain Russian who is the richest guy on the planet, plus the Coptic #Sawiris family billionaires. Sisi is the king of horrors to sustain a poverty sinking Eyg while the Nile goes sick with dead fish, the Sinai blows up, the border to #Gaza is closed, and the hope of a revolution whithers.
Possibly, this crap is the controlling pattern beginning with the fiasco of the Bush and Gore election of 2000 to the one yesterday in Scotland? The elite Empire ever fearful of the awaken people actually coming to the polls and voting against them tampers and violates the process to subjugate and carry forward an agenda of obtuse slavery. Yet, in every instance the domination by dirty oil and its global casino rears its psychopath reality apparently based on their acting out a death wish for our entire species.
What the Nope vote is actually about, if one carries enough to review the route of the sociopaths.
Scottish waters, consisting of a large sector of the North Atlantic and the North Sea, contain the largest oil resources in the European Union. Scotland is the #EU’s largest petroleum producer. Oil was discovered in the North Sea in 1966, with the first year of full production taking place in 1976. With the growth of oil exploration as well as ancillary industries needed to support dirty oil, the city of Aberdeen is the center of the North Sea Oil Industry, with its port and harbor serving many offshore oilfields. Sullom Voe in Shetland is the site of a major oil terminal where oil is piped in and transferred to sea going tankers. Similarly, the Flotta Oil Terminal in Orkney is linked by a 230 km long pipeline to the oil fields in the North Sea. Dirty oil related industries are a major source of employment and income in these regions. It is estimated the industry employs 100,000+ workers (or 6% of the working population) of Scotland, and then you can spin off from this economic generator the service sector necessary to keep those who work to keep dirty oil pumping.
Although North Sea oil production is declining since 1999, an estimated 920 million tons of recoverable crude oil remains. Over two and a half billion tons were recovered from #UK offshore oil fields between the first #North Sea crude coming ashore in 1975 to 2002 plus most oil fields will remain ‘economically’ viable until 2020.
Scotland is also endowed with some of the best energy resources in Europe and is a net exporter of electricity with a generating capacity of 10.1 GW primarily from coal, oil, gas, and nuke energy generation. Currently renewable energy sources provide Scotland with 35% of its electricity production, with onshore wind generation making the largest contribution, and supporting several thousand jobs. There are many wind farms along the coast and hills, with plans to create one of the world’s largest onshore wind farms at Barvas Moor on the Hebridean island of Lewis. For the record, I am against all wind farms, what we birders call the Cusinarts of the airs.
The back-story is yesterday the majority of Scots supported what they know – not what they could envision or sustain from a green or even a blue economy. They were sold a bill of goods by the Empire, as the media supported the Nope vote. The Empire forever driven by its dirty oil global fiat monetary system spent whatever was necessary to protect its dirty oil profit. Margins necessary for MENA (and soon Africa) wars to consume the resources to drill baby drill to make the machinery to drill baby drill. It is the total closed system of ruler economics protected by its slaves and ignorant overseers to keep the ponzi game going no matter how many Arabs are murdered or how many babies are burned alive by Israhell’s chemical bombs dropped on the civil population of trapped Gazans (also known as Palestinians, am I correct Dr. Hani?).
The Brit Sterling churn was substantial, yet where did the money go?
Money underwrites a winning crusade and without it, there is no campaign. Harry Potter female author J.K. Rowling is on the side of keeping the U.K. together; she gave the “Better Together” campaign £1 million. The pro-independence campaign received £1 million from Chris and Colin Weir — a Scottish couple who won a lottery jackpot of £161 million in 2011. All told, campaigners opposed to independence have raised £2.7 million in donations greater than £7,500 since December 2013.
The “Yes” campaign raised £1.8 million over the same period. Those numbers were reported to the U.K. Electoral Commission, which oversaw Thursday’s historic vote (correct, the fox is tending the chicken coop). Nevertheless, the final total spent trying to persuade Scotland’s 4.3 million registered voters far exceeds the £4.5 million recorded so far by the Electoral Commission. Why? Because the commission’s figures exclude donations made before December 18, 2013, individual amounts less than £7,500 (est. $12,218.62 US Dollars) and money given to political parties campaigning for either side.
Shocked? If America has its super pacs and no campaign finance reform, the UK has their version of corrupting politicians and work arounds to put in office the servants and askew any public referendum.
The lead campaign organizations (where there any others?) on both sides — Better Together and Yes Scotland — were limited to spending £1.5 million each during the 16 weeks leading up to polling day, September 18, 2014. But the Scottish National Party of independence champion Alex Salmond supposedly spent as much as £1.3 million campaigning during this period. Moreover, the three leading British parties opposed to independence were allowed to spend about £1.4 million.
Elections are also about crunching voter numbers inside precincts and regions. During a campaign, managers regularly are guided by telephone polls and walking polls to figure out where hearty acquisition is demanded (spend more bucks, get more volunteers, find larger corporate donors, etc.) and where to maintain by a less overt presence (spend less bucks, etc.).
The #Yes Scotland Campaign made some mistakes by not inviting election knights to the round table, but then again, their enthusiasm and dedication was admirable. The #No Better Together (read gag) Campaign was orchestrated by the pros paid by ruling elite from banksters, investors, and organized labor. I always found it upside down labor was against the independence of Scotland because it would dilute their powers through the empire? What or who was used to buy them off?
The Nope campaign of fear and paranoia spent millions to defeat the Yes Scotties. The Yes folks held on to hope, and I believe if you tallied them this moment, the day after, they would with some reflection continue to be enamored by the ultimate goal of home rule, to be an independent nation from the Crown.
My genetics is pre-positioned for freedom, justice, and bread. I easily take up the shield for democracy as a yapping terrier underdog. It is not only my brain organization it is my subversive world view – unless our species becomes wholly independent from the greed masters Earth will wipe us off the planet to begin again with a more improved model of DNA. Pachamama’s new combo will probably support a biped brainy species where compassion and intelligence out-weigh personal or collective insecurity, greed and fear. If you challenge this supposition, read this pile of caca from the BBC – http://www.bbc.com/news/world-29272728 .
Scotland is not at a crossroads no matter the psychological Jungian icon imagery of the flag. England will march along with the wealthy living off war, the Queen and the royals living in their grand prisons, and the idiots of 10 Downing Street parading across the BBC, while M15 and M16 continue (see https://www.sis.gov.uk/ if you wish to join the corps – they are recruiting).
The media of course, bought and paid for, supported the Nope. Sir Sean Connery supports the Yep, as does Dougie Maclean and in my fantasy world so does Braveheart Mel Gibson. For those on the borders of Scotland you were duped but too late now, I am sure the ballots are burned. For those in Glasgow, you are saltiere beacons of change. The status quo silent majority (although in Scotland I think this is a complete misnomer as our gene pool will discuss politics at any swig of the brew or during the final hole of a round on the moors) won the day for their masters. The Tory chains are secure. The gorgeous waterways, mountains, 31,460 lochs, and lands are ready to be raped more and the seas further destroyed in the name of Empire dirty oil and wars in foreign countries as the propaganda plagued Brits fuss about the next baby Royal.
A statistic of some note is 600,000 of the eligible votes yesterday were from non-native Scots (and, I am not yammering on about invasive vegetation plants). Our turnout total was 96.9% but the piddle stream media states it is 84.6%. Turnout in the election was 51.7% in the constituency vote and 52.4% in the regional vote up from 2003 where the turnout was 49.4% in both the constituency and regional vote.
If you crunch the numbers, they do not add up. And, so it goes, the world no longer adds up to much more than the next suffering or meta-thud from another 1,000 hectares of the Amazon rainforest going down to meet the demands of dirty oil.
Am I a pessimist? The cynical writer, the burnt out journo, and the aging radical continues otherwise why would I consume the time to research and offer alternative views news?
Current events be damned, my great grandfather sea Capt. William Francis Macomber (a legend in his own time) and my grandfather William F. Macomber, Jr. (inventor) along with my CSPAN junkie mother Fran-Ma (died from an environmental disease) are sitting nearby in my hut in the jungle egging me on to continue to fight for independence.
One specific unrelenting and nearly eternal is when the familial dead call from across the rainbow bridge to ask you to work in life on certain high and mighty principles, one needs to respond. This tome is an opportunity for you to understand and for me to remember how precious is life and love. I honor my clan heritage with this meagerness. May you do the same in your own particular scheme and talent.
God protect the innocent. Free Humanity. Tick tock. Tick tock.

Devolution is the transfer of power to a lower level, especially by central government to local or regional administration. Also known at times in the body politic, as Home Rule.
Home Rule = The right for local self-government including the powers to regulate the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; to license; to tax; and to incur debt. Home rule involves the authority of a local government to prevent state government intervention with its operations. The extent of its power, however, is subject to limitation prescribed by state constitutions and statues. When a municipality or other political subdivision has the power to decide for itself whether to follow a particular course of action without receiving specific approval from state officials, it acts pursuant to such powers. For example, a town exercises its home rule powers when it puts the issue of allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages within its borders on a ballot. The Peconic County movement of the five eastern townships of Suffolk County, NY, was a fight for Home Rule. I was an advocate and on the committee as an advisor for small business on the Peconic County Now initiative. We won the public referendum to secede from Suffolk County but lost when the NY State Legislature would not allow us to become our own county entity. (For amusement read: http://easthamptonstar.com/Archive/1/Peconic-One-More-Try)
The United Kingdom Alternative Vote referendum, as part of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition Agreement drawn up after the 2010 general election, was a nationwide vote held on Thursday 5 May 2011 (the same date as local elections in many areas) to choose the method of electing MPs at subsequent general elections. The referendum concerned whether to replace the present “first-past-the-post” (simple plurality) system with the “alternative vote” (AV) method. The proposal to introduce AV was rejected by the electorate.
This was only the second nationwide referendum to be held (the first being the EC referendum in 1975) and the first that was not merely consultative; being “post-legislative” and therefore committing the government to give effect to its decision. It was the first time ever everyone within the United Kingdom were asked to vote on a domestic legislative matter which did not involve the affairs of the EC/European Union.
All registered electors over 18 (British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens living in the UK and enrolled British citizens living outside) – including Members of the House of Lords (who cannot vote in UK general elections) – were entitled to take part.
On a turnout of 42.2 per cent, 68 per cent voted No and 32 per cent voted Yes. Ten of the 440 counting districts recorded ‘Yes’ votes above 50 per cent; six in London, and those in Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh Central and Glasgow Kelvin in Scotland.
The Scottish Covenant was a petition to the United Kingdom government to create a home rule Scottish parliament. First proposed in 1930, and promoted by the Scots Independent in 1939, the National Covenant movement reached its peak during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Initiated by John MacCormick, the Covenant was written in October 1949 at the Church of Scotland Assembly Halls in Edinburgh, during the Third National Assembly of the Scottish Convention, a pressure group that evolved into the Scottish Covenant Association.
The petition was eventually signed by two million people (including my grandfather). In the census of 1951, the population of Scotland was 5.1 million. The Scottish Covenant, however, had little political impact, and it was not until 1979 that proposals for a Scottish Assembly became a serious political prospect. The current Scottish Parliament reconvened in 1999.
The name of the Covenant is a reference to the Solemn League and Covenant establishing the rights of the Church of Scotland in the 17th century. An Ulster Covenant was also made in 1912, opposing the idea of Home Rule in Ireland.
Dissenters like me, without festering nutso bi-polar extremism or fattening egos, attempt to offer linkage and facts regarding what the US govt. does, worldwide, ostensibly referred to as American foreign policy. After pivotal 9/11 and the corporatocracy’s instigation of the sloe mo SCOTUS
dismantling of the American #Bill of Rights, coupled to the recent watershed of #Gaza spewing across the worldwide web, our truthbot armada finally left the dock. We are not loaded with bear. We are heavy with purpose, in solidarity.
Somewhere, someone is reading this tome, and it is because we share a goal, a mission, an attitude, and a heartfelt demand to end wars, stop injustice, and build humanity in equality, freedom, and health. The cruddy onion peels and the US govt.’s actual deputation to safeguard dirty oil via a fiat monetary globalization is revealed. The reality is shocking to the Pollyannaish of the planet.
What is offered in social media by those of us beating the tom toms of world wide peace goes against the installed mis-info and misdirected ‘understanding’ force fed to the American public. Those with discerning eyes, some with innate higher intellect and/or flow for higher consciousness, are not fooled by the empire’s malarkey and its piddle stream media hype.
The peaceniks gather at the oasis of Twitter, and Fedbook, and other social media apps to swap right action information and in unison watchdog the madness of the powers-that-be.
For familial and literary records, I do not hate my homecountry (but I do reside in a gorgeous nature country with no military and no nukes – Costa Rica. See prior posts on my blog for a delicate socio-psychological evaluation about human hatred – read self-loathing acted out as species annihilation stemming from herd instinct and negative mind alternation.
The Glenn Greenwalds and Julian Assanges of the world provide an affirming legitimacy for the rest of us, dangling from golden cords, not employed or driven by income or applause. Rather, our pro-bono gush of certainty is emanating from the universal heart.
Enemies pop up. These lost souls are dups of the mental masturbations of the lost cause of human domination by the few. The elite is not to be excused yet under bright lights of analysis the clarity is they are greedy, fear driven, id-bent baby-people. Small souls is a term I learned from someone in Habitat for Humanity. The more is never enough privileged march along in unison; an army of latest in designer cloaks branded by low self-esteem pretended by what is hip this season. Their daily task is to acquire stuff as a fortress to stop any self-awareness or watchfulness while treading within a collective paranoia.
As to why, you and me, and be assured I am preaching to the choir, are separated from the herd and stand on mountain tops bleating the difference of truth, such answers are the purview of a higher power. If you do not subscribe to a higher power, be not afraid or condescending. The sign of bona fide compassion is an individual who doubts religiosity yet thumps love as the universality for the human condition. Some truly need an organized methodology to practice ancient cosmic principles above personalities.
Others, circumspect regarding organized establishments travel the road less hiked.
My delegation is of this ilk, maybe a tad shifting toward anarchy, yet primarily humans whose calling for life is centered in independence and spirituality. My direct connection to my higher power is sober, judicious, and on going. Fear and denial are the defeating attitudes.
Bravery is the tenant of faith. Vigilance is the watchfulness. Kindness the objectivity. Love the willingness. Empathy the acceptance.
Such a recipe is neither new nor flashy. It bops along the roiling ocean of troubled humankind and at high water marks altered by the loving energies of other creatures possibly is catapulted to joy. If we are wary of the bullshit and brush it from our souls, while in the here and now, life is happy, genuinely commonsensible. The quietness of intuition (higher power’s voice) of wisdom leads us along and up our actualized growth chart.
Everyday, I attempt to learn and integrate what is sent along my bio-path. At times, the lessons are bitter and pain nearly overwhelming yet, in over-sentimental faith, I trudge further up the mountain. Lately, discovering other lanterns for peace provides solace. For many a moon, it seemed our sincerity and ranks were thinning, not expanding. Today, I testify, we MAY have turned the incoming tide. Gaza is the watershed.
The article I wrote Why Weep for Gaza the beginning, July 2014, turns out to be not merely a manifesto, but a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am a scribe, not fully cognizant of what I type here on my keyboard. It flows from some well I neither fill, nor empty. Writing is a pleasing way to speak with one’s honed voice and if offered unconditionally at times resonates with a readership. What I keyboard serves as therapy for me, and maybe you. A heap of MSW docs I scribed are stored on a lonely external hard drive. These are too personal to publicly disseminate or just pure caca, yet I keep them as silent mammoths of waning arrogance.
A world without birds, shorelines, seas, winds, jungles, forests, mountains, storms, serenity, views, books, libraries, museums, performing arts centers, and gardens countermands the horrors of bias, species-loathing, and the god awful syllabus left over from the 19th century – the industrialization of the world to power the greedy fucks known as cherry picking ‘natural resources’. Our dumb arse species has no right to steal, pollute, piss on, or drill baby drill. Earth, Pachamama, is a living whole entity part of a larger whole holy being. The curriculum we must learn is how to live as one with ourselves. and with Gaia.
Unless humanity’s agenda does an about face, shortly inside the 59th minute, we will wipe ourselves from the crust of the third rock. How do I know? The birds tell me so.
